Description

This package addresses issues where induction motors or compressor-type loads generate several times their rated current during starting, causing lighting flicker on the same bus or transient power interruption to other equipment. We begin by using a clamp meter with peak-capture capability to repeatedly record the inrush current magnitude and decay time constant during motor starts, obtaining real waveform data of the startup characteristics. Based on the captured waveform parameters, we evaluate the interaction between the existing supply circuit’s equivalent impedance and the inrush current, determining whether to insert a starting current limiting component in the circuit.

The subsequent customized mitigation may involve connecting NTC thermistors in series at the motor supply terminal, or adding a bypass contactor with delayed switching to smooth the current spike below the instantaneous trip threshold of the existing protective device. All added components are selected and positioned based on measured inrush values and start frequency, with post-installation verification through repeated start tests and waveform comparisons to confirm effectiveness.

This service is entirely designed around the specific motor nameplate parameters, starting method, and existing circuit capacity on site. A deposit is required, covering the on-site setup of inrush recording instruments and initial waveform data collection, with the amount estimated based on the number of motors to be handled and control complexity. After suppression components are installed and verified through repeated starts, the final invoice is based on the quantity and type of suppression devices used and the total commissioning time.
